I’m Tiro Modibedi. I live in Gaborone, Botswana, where I build the future.
I've been fascinated with how things work for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school, I taught myself electronics from a single textbook because our Design and Technology department lacked resources. With nothing but determination and that book, I created a ball-bearing sorter with a 555 timer circuit that could distinguish between different sizes—my first real encounter with bringing an idea to life through technology.
My curiosity earned me recognition as a Top Achiever in Botswana and the country's best in Physics, securing a scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London.
While engineering at Imperial seemed like the logical next step, I discovered that my true passion wasn't in circuit diagrams but in code. I took a leap of faith, stepped away from formal education, and spent the next year and a half teaching myself programming—starting with Adobe Illustrator for design, then HTML and CSS, and finally JavaScript.
The blend of self-teaching and my later studies in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at UCT gave me something unique: strong theoretical foundations combined with the creativity that only comes from building projects with your own hands.
Today, I work remotely as a Lead Developer for Reflective Learning, an edtech company empowering learners to identify and address knowledge gaps. But my work doesn't stop when I clock out. By night (and weekends), I'm busy tinkering with some random tool or app that I am building. You can check out some of my side projects to see what I've been working on.
